Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) has dropped his endorsement of Maine Senatorial candidate Graham Platner in the wake of his most serious scandal yet, but the Republican National Committee (RNC) is not letting the Senator off easy.
Platner's Latest Scandal
A woman named Jenny Racicot is accusing Platner of entering her home uninvited and sexually assaulting her, which is the most troubling of the numerous scandals Platner has been subject to since he first announced his candidacy in Maine.
In a post to X, Sen. Gallego wrote, "The allegations against Graham Platner are troubling and deeply serious. I am rescinding my endorsement."
Sen. Gallego's previous support of Platner had already been viewed as problematic since March, as State Representative Alma Hernandez (D-20) and the RNC hammered him for it, while State Representative Nick Kupper (R-25) later did so in May.
The Company You Keep?
In April, when former Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) was forced to resign from office and suspend his campaign for Governor of California after accusations of sexual assault surfaced, the RNC further excoriated Gallego for his well-known friendship with Swalwell and alleged inappropriate behavior with women.
Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) filed an ethics complaint against the Arizona Senator that same month, claiming four women came forward (although it remains unknown if they are connected to the incidents the RNC criticized Gallego for).
The Senate Ethics Committee has since dismissed the complaint due to a lack of evidence.
Nevertheless, the RNC is not letting Gallego forget that, in addition to endorsing Platner and being friends with Swalwell, he is also drinking buddies with Representative Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), who is under ethics investigation for cheating on his wife, and having Morris Katz, who allegedly sought to include a picture of his genitalia in a book about male puberty he authored, as a political advisor.
"One person is circumstance, two people is bad judgement, but after four in a few months it's clear that these creeps are just the sort of person Gallego likes to hang out with," said RNC Spokesman Nick Poche in a statement. "Considering Gallego's own creepy past with women, it's clear exactly the kind of weak, disgusting man he is."
