The U.S. House of Representatives passed a funding package on Wednesday that includes over $11 million for community projects in the Tucson area and surrounding southeastern Arizona.
Congressman Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), who represents Arizona's Sixth Congressional District, worked with local leaders to secure funding for police departments, water infrastructure, and public safety needs. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, he helped identify priorities for the area.
"Happy to report that we just passed three more appropriation bills," Ciscomani said after the vote. He noted that passing budget bills this way "hasn't been done here in a long, long time, years actually."
The funding package includes several major allocations. Tucson police would receive $4.2 million for vehicle fleet modernization, which Ciscomani said ensures first responders "have reliable vehicles when every second counts in their line of work."
Funding Initiatives
The Town of Marana would get $2.25 million for water system improvements at Marana Regional Airport and $1.75 million for a Pioneer Well treatment project.
Sahuarita's police department would receive $809,687 to replace radio equipment so "officers can communicate clearly and safely in the field," according to Ciscomani.
Additionally, the city of Tombstone would receive $989,786 for water reclamation facility upgrades, while Graham County would secure $1.2 million for a water line project.
The congressman emphasized the importance of water projects amid drought conditions in the Colorado River. "Water security is more important than ever," he stated, describing these as "practical locally requested projects that are transparent, accountable, and focused on results."
"This funding is critical for community projects in Southeastern Arizona," Ciscomani said. "By advancing these water projects and public safety investments, we're responding directly to priorities identified by our communities."
The funding package now moves to the Senate for consideration over the next few weeks before potentially heading to President Donald Trump for final approval.
The bill would provide funding for multiple government departments while supporting local infrastructure and public safety initiatives. Ciscomani has expressed optimism about the future of his constituents.
