Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) is celebrating President Donald Trump signing H.R. 837 into law.

The Bill's History

As reported earlier in October, Rep. Crane's bill was first introduced in March 2023 as H.R. 1829, passing the House in April 2024.

The House passed the bill again in February 2025, and the Senate unanimously passed it on the last day of September this year.

H.R. 837 transfers 232 acres of land from the federal government to Gila County, Arizona, to build a veterans' center near the town of Young and "protect and maintain the rich history of the property, while providing family housing, meeting and activity spaces, resource rooms, Veteran Ceremonial Grounds, and outdoor recreation."

President Trump finally signed the bill into law on Tuesday.

What Crane is Saying

"I'm grateful to President Donald J. Trump for signing H.R. 837 into law and giving Arizona's veterans a permanent place to recreate, reconnect, and spend time with their families," Rep. Crane said in a press release. "None of this would have been possible without Supervisor Woody Cline, whose vision and tireless work helped build bipartisan buy-in for this effort."

The Arizona congressman further stated that "with local ownership on the way, Gila County will have the stability to expand and improve this facility for the veterans it serves. I'm honored to have played a role in this process, and I appreciate Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-AR), Chairman Mike Lee (R-UT), Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ), and many others who helped deliver this critical win. As my first bill signed into law, this one means a great deal to me. I look forward to future generations of our nation's heroes enjoying this retreat."

Another Arizona First Law

Crane is not the only member of Arizona's congressional delegation to recently have a bill signed into law for the first time; Representative Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) also got her Billion-Dollar Boondoggle bill on President Trump's desk.

Rep. Ansari's bill requires the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to report annually to Congress on qualifying taxpayer-funded projects and detail changes to their scope, estimated costs, and projected completion dates, ensuring greater transparency and awareness of delays or cost overruns, especially if they are over 5 years ahead of schedule or $1 billion over budget.
