Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) recently spoke on the House floor about the dangers of Sharia law -- the traditional Islamic legal theory -- which he and other Republican lawmakers are warning is infiltrating American society and seeking to supplant it.
"This afternoon, I joined @RepKeithSelf, @RepChipRoy, and other members of the Sharia Free America Caucus on the House floor. Our laws are rooted in individual liberty, not religious authoritarianism," Rep. Crane posted on social media.
In his address, Rep. Crane says, "Supporters of this radical framework believe in a mandate to dominate those who refuse to conform to their belief system." He further criticized open-borders politicians that have "welcomed millions of foreigners who do not share our values, culture, or tradition. As a result, they have undermined not only stability, but also the identity of their own nations."
"In Europe, especially," the Arizona congressman continued, "weak leaders have ignored serious human rights abuses while punishing their citizens for speaking out against open border policies, while Washington prioritizes neutralizing the capabilities of adversarial nation-states. We far too often ignore growing dangers from within our own borders."
The problem, he argued, is that "they spread quietly through our culture rather than kinetic warfare." Thus, "ff we do not shield our constitutional republic from ideological subversion, we risk eroding our liberties to appease those who refuse to assimilate."
Crane stressed that "this should not be a controversial message," as "we have every right and obligation to defend the principles and structure implemented by our Founding Fathers."
After all, over a dozen countries already practice Sharia law, and advocates, Crane says, can simply move there instead rather than try to replace the American system.
In December, Representatives Chip Roy (R-TX) and Keith Self (R-TX) established the Sharia-Free America Caucus, which grew to 38 members, including Crane, across 18 states, holding its inaugural press conference in early February.
