Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ) expressed outrage at the extensive child trafficking that occurred at the southern border under the Biden Administration in a recent House Oversight roundtable, especially the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that facilitated it through charity funding.
A History of Enablement
"I think it is very imperative that we have the financial backgrounds of all these NGOs, because you cannot solve a problem if you don't know where the money is going, right?" Rep. Gosar began by voicing his frustration that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has denied him access to these organizations' financial records.
Additionally, Rep. Gosar suggested that "we condition these people to do this," meaning, "It started back with [President Bill] Clinton; he found out that if he uses immigrants as political weapons against your adversaries, and then it continues to [President Barack] Obama... but [President Joe] Biden just really took it to new levels."
As a result, the Arizona congressman suggested that "if we don't want this ever to play out again, we need those NGO numbers as to where they are getting their money," expressing particular outrage for Catholic Charities, one of the NGOs, as a Catholic himself.
The Human Cost of Trafficking
Gosar then asked former Border Patrol Chief Chris Clem what he had witnessed during his tenure.
Clem described how migrants would be told to "just get to the border, and Border Patrol will let you go." More egregiously, he continued, the demand produced by the Biden Administration's catch and release system made keeping track of unaccompanied alien children (UACs) almost impossible.
"That's why these operations you're seeing across the nation are so imperative," Clem declared, further noting that smugglers would separate families in Mexico, separating children from their parents and making them cross with different people.
"They would send parents to one sector, send the kids to the other sector, or even split up families, make mom and dad become the mom and dad of other kids while sending a family to my sector."
