Stanton's Highway Bill

Representatives Greg Stanton (D-AZ) and Tony Gonzales (R-TX) have introduced a bipartisan bill to recalibrate the awarding of grants from the Highway Trust Fund to ensure rapidly growing states receive adequate funding for construction projects.

For additional context, the Highway Trust Fund's source of revenue comes from transportation-related excise taxes, like those on gas, diesel, and heavy-duty trucking. The problem is that the formula for awarding these funds is still based on 2010 census data.

Arizona and Texas have grown rapidly in population since then, with the Grand Canyon State's population growing almost 12% since 2010 and Texas's population growth being the third-largest since 2010, but both states received very little highway funding despite this.

Does Texas have a constitutional right to defy Supreme Court on protecting its border?

Senator Ruben Gallego: This isn’t some reversal out of nowhere by Dems. The fact of the matter is, Dems, including me and my team, were trying to negotiate with the Republicans for weeks. The bill that was introduced for floor consideration back-pedaled on a lot of the progress we made and did not include other improvements we sought. It seems they want us to suck it up and vote for this bill without our input. That’s not what we expected during this negotiation and not how I operate. Our statement makes clear we won’t let them jam us. Looking forward to continuing to get this bill to a better place.

Representative Andy Biggs: It was an honor to host @ASU President @MichaelCrow in my DC office. I appreciate his valuable insight into the future of higher education in Arizona and the United States. I look forward to many more years of collaboration with Arizona’s great universities!

Representative Juan Ciscomani: Drones, missiles, aircraft. America must be protected from threats from above. Last week, Congressman Hamadeh voted to allocate $25 billion for the

@POTUS's Golden Dome. This is a vital investment in keeping Americans safe.
Representative Greg Stanton: LIHEAP helps low-income families afford their A/C bills during Arizona's deadly hot summers. I'm leading the fight against the Trump Administration's dangerous attempt to claw back funding for this program.

Representative Yassamin Ansari: Donald Trump's administration is complete and utter chaos. My constituents and I are extremely concerned, and I've never seen anything like this. That's why I'm doing everything I can in Congress to fight his insanity and its harmful impacts.

State Senator Janae Shamp: I am beyond committed to making pedophiles' lives hell. I will never stop fighting to protect our children from the evil of these perverts!

State Senator Priya Sundareshan: Thank YOU @Vets_FWD for advocating for ratepayers and our climate. HB2679 could be amended to allow securitization as a benefit for utilities and ratepayers alike if it's only used to retire assets for a just transition - but right now it's dangerously broad.

State Representative John Gillette: Unfortunate, but this is very close to a Twilight Zone episode. At some point, people will wake up and take revenge at the polls. The Democrat party will out of power for 30 years, until we go too far... then we shift again.

State Representative Walt Blackman: Proud to stand for the rule of law and the safety of our communities. I’m glad to have voted YES on HB2099—a commonsense bill that empowers the Governor and Attorney General to uphold federal immigration laws and cooperate on enforcement. As your Representative for LD7, I will always support policies that protect Arizona families and ensure our laws are enforced. #LD7 #HB2099 #SecureTheBorder #AZLeg #RuleOfLaw

State Representative Selina Bliss: A shoutout to Jean for helping us get signatures this week at the PV Republican Club. We are aiming for over 1,000 signatures to get on the ballot to continue our work in the AZ State House. Help us out by signing our petitions for @QuangNguyenAZ and @SelinaBliss online at - apps.azsos.gov/apps/election/

State Representative Michael Carbone: We must invest in our local businesses to drive job growth and economic success in our communities. Let's do this together! carboneforaz.com #LD25 #AZstatehouse #majorityleader #repcarbone #carboneforAZ
