The FBI has released information on Thomas Crooks, the would-be assassin of former President Donald Trump, in Butler, Pennsylvania. Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ), part of the independent investigation into the shooting, discussed the new information during an appearance on Fox News's Jesse Watters Primetime, suggesting that "we did not learn that much today."
BBC detailed the FBI's releases, noting how Crooks had been researching how to build improvised explosive devices (IEDs) since 2019, had been following the campaign events of both Trump and President Biden, and had no alcohol or drugs in his system, according to the toxicology report.
Despite this, no motive has been apparent, and the FBI continues to insist Crooks acted alone.
On Tuesday, Trump sat with Phil McGraw for an interview, where he partially blamed the Biden-Harris Administration for the lack of Secret Service protection at the rally, saying, "Look, they were weaponizing government against me. They brought in the whole DOJ to try and get me. They weren't too interested in my health and safety."
"I have to agree with the President," said Rep. Crane, "You can only call somebody a white supremacist and a threat to democracy so many times before somebody in America tries to do something about it."
Host Jesse Watters called the allegation "damning," which the Arizona Congressman also agreed with, yet "it matches up with everything we have seen. We know that the Secret Service denied [Trump] extra protection. We know that they denied [Robert F. Kennedy] Jr. extra protection as well. We know that they believed that if they gave him extra protection, he would look too presidential. Well, how about this, guys, how about you actually do your job and protect probably the most hated individual around the entire world that has the most threats against his life?"
As a result, Rep. Crane suggested the new information about Crooks did not reveal anything of interest.
"But here is the deal: The big issue the FBI has, and you just talked about it in your opening, is whether or not the American people trust what they actually say. This is the same organization that went after Catholics, would not investigate the Hunter Biden laptop, went after parents at school board meetings, and also could not find the January 6th pipe bomber," Crane concluded.
