Senator Mark Kelly: Phones in school have been a disaster for kids’ education. My new bill pushes states to ban phones from the classroom so students can focus on learning.

Senator Ruben Gallego: Yeah lol we can’t trust the people that have an interest in AI to regulate themselves. They have to respond to corporate shareholders. Congress has to respond to the American public.

Representative Abe Hamadeh: Congressman Hamadeh Is Reeling In the Catfishers The CATFISH Act (H.R. 10495) targets romance and impersonation (“catfish”) scams against seniors. It: • Adds enhanced penalties for romance fraud aimed at people 60 or older: up to an extra 10 years in prison and fines up to $1 million on top of existing mail, wire, or bank fraud convictions. • Requires training for employees at financial institutions and retailers so they can spot warning signs, especially large prepaid gift-card purchases (over $500). • Directs institutions to warn seniors before suspicious transfers or payments go through, so funds are less likely to leave the account. • Sets anti-fraud standards and encourages best practices for banks and similar institutions serving older customers. • Adds reporting rules for suspicious activity involving senior customers, with civil penalties for noncompliance. • Calls for a study of further remedies for victims.
