Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ) is celebrating progress toward releasing 832.6 acres for the Kingman Municipal Airport.

The Context

The release of this land, which includes an approximately 790-acre parcel and an additional 42.6 acres associated with the proposed Flying Fortress Parkway, would allow the city of Kingman to dispose of the property for non-aeronautical purposes such as manufacturing, industrial development, and logistics.

The deal has been in the works for about six years, but the Federal Register recently announced it will move forward.

What Gosar is Saying

"This has taken far too long, but we are finally making real progress," Rep. Gosar said in a press release. "I have worked persistently with the FAA and Kingman officials to get this across the finish line. This land represents an enormous opportunity for Kingman, and I have pushed to make sure federal red tape does not stand in the way of local economic development.  We are not at the finish line yet, but this is an important step in the right direction."

Rep. Gosar further emphasized that "Kingman's local officials understand what this property could mean for the community, and they have stayed at the table and done the work to move this forward. I appreciate their partnership and their willingness to work constructively with my office and the FAA. When local leaders have a vision for their community, the federal government should be a partner in making that vision a reality—not an obstacle."

The Arizona congressman concluded, "This is an opportunity for the public to weigh in on a project that matters to Kingman's future. We need to keep this process moving and get this land into a position where it can support economic growth, investment, and good-paying jobs.  I will continue working with local officials and the FAA until we get this across the finish line."

Previous Developments

In May, Senators Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ) jointly wrote to Federal Aviation Administrator (FAA) Bryan Bedford to finalize the release, writing, "We urge the FAA to work with the City of Kingman to resolve any outstanding issues to complete this land release in a timely manner."
