The Syrian Civil War finally came to an end in recent days after the authoritarian government of Bashar al-Assad collapsed, severing one of Iran's major allies in the Levant. Representative-elect Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) discussed the fallout in a recent discussion on James Harris's The Conservative Circus radio show, saying an "opportunity" exists for the new Syrian government to normalize relations with Israel.

In the clip, Rep.-elect Hamadeh began with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Sunday address in which he "was saying that we [Israel] want to welcome the Druze, the Kurds, the Muslims, [and] the Christians into the new Syria and make sure they are all part of the new government," which he called "a really, really beautiful message."

Now, if that's the case, that is going to be a huge seismic shift to have a country that has been at war with Israel for so long normalize ties with Israel," Rep.-elect Hamadeh continued.
Beirut-based Al Mayadeen, whose coverage should be regarded cautiously for its pro-Hezbollah bias, reported that former Israeli intelligence officer Mordechai Kedar has been in contact with rebels seeking such relations with the Jewish State.
Nevertheless, the new Arizona Congressman also emphasized that "the opportunity also is that we have now cut off that landline from Iran all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. Remember, Iran has assets in Iraq, they had assets in Syria, they had assets in Lebanon."
"What Bibi Netanyahu did by taking out Hassan Nasrallah [and] Hezbollah in Lebanon, they are so neutered right now [with] what Netanyahu did with that campaign, he took out the head in Lebanon but also now in Syria because Bashar al-Assad was a very close ally of Iran. So this new opportunity that can happen is going to be really welcome news for Israel," Hamadeh concluded.
