The federal government narrowly avoided a shutdown Friday after it voted for a continuing resolution maintaining funding through March. Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ), who voted against the bill, discussed it recently on NewsMax, saying, "We did nothing to prepare for that incoming change in direction," referring to President-elect Donald Trump's incoming Administration.
Rep. Biggs posted the clip to X (formerly Twitter), where he said, "Congress must stop waiting until the final hours to deal with the budget. This latest CR-omnibus extends terrible Biden-Harris policy and bloated spending levels into President Trump's term. We should've been doing everything in our power to prepare for the new Administration."

For instance, Rep. Biggs suggested, "We probably should have put money and laid it aside, so on January 21st, the day after President Trump is inaugurated, Tom Homan, the border czar, would actually have the resources to go in and start deportations and the processes he needs, whether it is transportation, off-site facilities, et cetera."
Additionally, he expressed skepticism toward Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-LA) remarks that the bill was "important" and a "necessary step to bridge the gap to put us into that moment where we can put our fingerprints on the final decisions on spending for 2025," saying he was "not sure that the Speaker was right that we are going to be able to turn on a dime. We should have been laying the groundwork already."
In a Saturday tweet, Representative Cory Mills (R-FL), another staunch supporter of Trump who voted against the spending bill, expressed a similar sentiment: "We must ensure President Trump's agenda succeeds and we put more money back into the pockets of Americans. We must extend the President's tax reform to support lower corporate taxes to help businesses, we must stop double taxation on social security for our elderly, find areas to cut DC addiction to spending, and we must always put America first."
