State Senate President Warren Petersen (R-14) has secured the endorsement of Pinal County Sheriff Ross Teeple in his bid for Arizona Attorney General.
What They're Saying
In a statement, Sheriff Teeple said, "President Petersen has a proven record of supporting law enforcement and being tough on crime. I know he will be an excellent Attorney General we can trust to fight the worst criminals and keep Arizona families safe."
State Sen. Petersen shared the statement on X, writing, "Sheriff @RossTeeple of Pinal County is backing me and it means a lot. I'm the candidate with the overwhelming support of law enforcement, and I'll be a partner to every sheriff in the state. Better collaboration with sheriffs means a safer Arizona. I'm Warren Petersen and I'm running to be your next Attorney General."
Ahead of his primary victory in July, Petersen had received the endorsement of Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ), who is running for Governor, with Rep. Biggs saying he cannot "turn Arizona around" without "a strong conservative candidate for Attorney General to defeat liberal Kris Mayes."
The Race So Far
Decision Desk HQ currently gives incumbent AG Kris Mayes a 5-point lead over Petersen in the polls as of last week, but Petersen has fought hard since winning the primary.
Right out of the gate, Petersen attacked AG Mayes during an interview on KTAR, saying, "I think what people will find is that I fall in line with the values of Arizonans, and Kris Mayes is out on the fringe on these 80-20 issues. She's siding in the 20 percent and leaving Arizona behind."
He suggested this was because Democrats as a whole have significantly shifted to the political left, commenting, "It used to be that Democrats and Republicans had a lot of similarities. But now we're seeing a lot of these Democrat elected officials that have gone extremely far left, like Kris Mayes."
