Members of Arizona's Congressional delegation, including Representatives Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ), and Senators Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), are paying their respects to the late Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on social media after his sudden passing over the weekend.
Graham's Passage
Sen. Graham, 71, was reported to have passed away Sunday following heart-related issues, which were later revealed by medical examiners to have been an aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease – his aorta ruptured from hardened arteries.
He was considered an influential voice in foreign policy and had just returned from a trip to Ukraine before his passing.
Sen. Graham was also set to run for a fifth Senate term, but his sudden, tragic death means South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster (R-SC) will appoint a new person to serve in Graham's absence until January 3rd of 2027.
Arizona Lawmakers Pay Their Respects
"Cindy and I are praying for the family members of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who suddenly passed away after decades of honorable service to our nation, starting with over six years in our Air Force. May he rest in peace and be remembered for his unquestionable love of the men and women who serve in the U.S. military," wrote Rep. Biggs.
Similarly, Rep. Ciscomani posted, "Senator Graham was a dedicated public servant and a steadfast advocate for the people of South Carolina, spending his career defending the American Dream in the United States Senate. Laura and I are praying for Senator Graham’s family, loved ones, and staff during this difficult time. May he rest in peace."
"I am saddened by the tragic loss of Senator Lindsey Graham. From his early days in the Air Force through his many years in the United States Senate, he devoted himself fully to public service," wrote Rep. Hamadeh.
Rep. Hamadeh continued, "Having had the privilege to meet him and work with him, I can personally attest to his strong character and tireless work ethic. He will be dearly missed. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, staff, and the people of South Carolina."
Sen. Gallego wrote, "I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham. His decades of service to South Carolina and to our country left a lasting mark. My prayers are with his family and loved ones as they grieve this profound loss."
Finally, Sen. Kelly posted, "Senator Lindsey Graham left his mark on South Carolina, our country, and the world through his decades of public service both in the military and elected office. He was a strong supporter of Ukraine in its fight against Russia. Gabby and I are keeping Lindsey’s family, friends, and team in our prayers."
