Paul Gosar Calls Ceuta Migrant Crisis 'America's Warning'

Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ) commented on Spain's Ceuta migrant crisis in a recent op-ed for Blaze Media, writing that it is "America's warning."

The Context

Ceuta is a small overseas territory of Spain on the coast of Morocco, just a short distance from the Spanish mainland.

Over the past several days, tens of thousands of migrants, estimated between 60,000 and 72,000, almost entirely composed of military-aged men, have poured over the Moroccan border into the territory.

The Spanish military was deployed to contain the crisis after the Guardia Civil was overwhelmed, and at least 18 migrants are estimated to have died in unknown circumstances.

The Op-Ed

Rep. Gosar's article, co-authored by Representatives Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Mary Miller (R-IL), argues that the crisis demonstrates the need for the United States to prevent the next Democratic administration from reversing President Donald Trump's measures to secure the border.

"President Trump's return to office and his decisive executive actions have restored deterrence and operational control," Rep. Gosar wrote. "But executive actions are temporary. A future Democratic administration could reverse them as quickly as Biden reversed Trump's first-term policies."

As a result, the Arizona congressman said that Congress must act, with the House Freedom Caucus recently holding a House Judiciary Committee markup for Representative Chip Roy's (R-TX) Permanent Trump Secure Border Act.

"Partial measures will not suffice," Gosar continued. "Neither will another round of promises to address the border later. The left has not abandoned its vision of demographic transformation through unchecked migration. It is waiting for another opportunity to impose it."

Roy's Bill

Rep. Roy's Permanent Trump Secure Border Act codifies many of President Donald Trump's border policies into law, thereby making their reversal much more difficult.

Measures include restrictions on asylum laws, revisions to rules for unaccompanied minors and family detention, and increases penalties for visa overstays.

Gosar concludes by writing, "Codify secure borders now — or prepare to watch the crisis return under the next Democratic administration. Our sovereignty, security, and rule of law depend on getting this right."
