AFP's Shadegg Talks 2025 for Arizona Legislature

The head of the influential Americans for Prosperity grassroots organization, Stephen Shadegg, recently spoke to Cactus Politics about he expects to happen within Republican leadership in the Arizona state legislature.

All eyes are on Speaker Steve Montenegro and President Warren Peterson.

—"I think who is on the clock is obviously Speaker [Steve] Montenegro, [who] is obviously newly elected to the leadership role, think a lot of people are excited about him. I think he has got to do some work with the Freedom Caucus, but I think that Steve has every intention of working with everybody, and I think he is going to be a great Speaker.

—"I think [State Senate President] Warren Peterson is going to continue to be a leader down in the Capitol.

—"[State Senator Thomas] "T.J." Shope will continue to be a leader in the Capitol. There are a few others, but those are probably the top three that are going to be in the spotlight."

Senator Ruben Gallego: For the first time in our country’s history, we’re manufacturing cutting-edge 4nm chips right here in the valley. This is a game changer for our state’s leadership in semiconductor innovation.

Representative Andy Biggs: Confirmation hearings for President Trump’s Cabinet picks begin this week in the Senate. The American people did their job in November. It’s time for Republican Senators to do theirs so President Trump can do his.

Governor Katie Hobbs: I have been steadfast in calling for the end of the abortion reporting law that requires government surveillance of pregnant women – and I again call on this Legislature to get rid of this unnecessary, invasive report for good.

State Representative Oscar De Los Santos: Huge from @GovernorHobbs— a big @AZHouseDems priority: End the invasive abortion reporting law.
