State Representative Alexander Kolodin's (R-3) Secure Elections Act is now eligible to be voted upon by Arizona voters in the upcoming November 2026 midterms.
State Rep. Kolodin's House Concurrent Resolution 2001, better known as the Arizona Secure Elections Act, would amend the State Constitution to require that only American citizens can vote in Arizona elections, and they must provide a government-issued ID before casting a ballot.
Additionally, foreign nationals are banned from making contributions or expenditures to influence Arizona elections, and voters have their ballots tabulated at the polling location and can cast a ballot after the polls close if they are already in line.
Other measures include the allowance of mail-in ballots to a confirmed mailing address and the preservation of the Arizona Legislature's authority to enact election laws tied to legitimate state
interests.
Should the bill succeed, it will take effect in the 2028 Election cycle.
In some ways, the bill resembles a state-level version of the SAVE America Act, with a similar measure recently implemented in Florida.
"For years, Arizonans have watched the same election problems repeat while trust in the system has eroded," said State Rep. Kolodin in a press release. "The Arizona Secure Elections Act puts the rules where they belong: in the Constitution. Citizens vote. Voters show ID. Foreign money stays out. Voters can see their ballots counted where they vote. Election laws should be written by Arizonans, not dictated by bureaucrats, activists, or outside interests. The Legislature has done its job. Now the people of Arizona will decide."
In May, Representative Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) renewed calls for the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act in a social media post after Democrats regrouped in the face of the Virginia Supreme Court declaring a proposed congressional redistricting map unconstitutional.
"Now more than ever, we need the SAVE America Act — documentary proof of citizenship, strict voter ID, and real fraud protections. Time to act, @SenateGOP. Pass it now and secure America's elections," Rep. Hamadeh declared.
