Erika Kirk Event Relocated After Parents Raise Safety, Disruption Concerns

A speaking event featuring Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk has been pulled from a Phoenix-area high school campus following parent concerns about safety and disruption, though the event itself is still expected to proceed.

Kirk had been invited by Club America, a student organization affiliated with Turning Point USA, to speak at Pinnacle High School during the lunch period next week. But after pushback from parents and further review, school and district officials decided the event needed a different setting.

Pinnacle High School Principal Jeremy Richards notified families that the event would be moved off campus and held after the school day ends. He said the decision came after new information suggested the visit could create significant disruption to the learning environment.

Richards added that the change was worked out collaboratively with Kirk's team and the student club.

The Paradise Valley Unified School District echoed that reasoning, saying the move was intended to protect the continuity of the school day while still respecting the legal rights of student-led organizations under the Federal Equal Access Act.

For background, The Federal Equal Access Act is a 1984 federal law that prevents public schools from discriminating against student clubs based on their religious, political, or philosophical viewpoints. In short, if a school allows any outside groups to meet on campus, it must allow all of them equal access, regardless of their beliefs or affiliations.

Parent's Point of View

As a result, parent concerns varied. Some objected to what they described as divisive political content being brought onto a public school campus during school hours. Others raised questions about security, given Kirk's public profile and a recent pattern of threats against her.

This comes amid Kirk canceling a separate appearance in Georgia earlier this week, citing security concerns and direct threats on her life.

ABC15 reported parent Bobbee Noland saying: "I support them having it, just not in the middle of the school day, it’s a learning environment, it’s going to be disruptive, there will be weapons on the school ground, there will be people arguing, protesting, not the place or the time to do it."

Now Kirk's prominence has grown significantly in recent months. She became CEO of Turning Point USA following the death of her husband and organization co-founder, Charlie Kirk. She is also scheduled to appear alongside President Donald Trump at Dream City Church in Phoenix today.

However, Richards noted that the club event remains voluntary and will receive no school or district funding, standard practice for all student organization activities at the school. Where it happens may have changed, but for the students who organized it, the show will go on.
