Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen (R-AZ) picked up a significant endorsement in his bid for state Attorney General this week, earning the backing of the Arizona Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), one of the largest law enforcement organizations in the state and part of the nation's biggest police union.
The FOP's Arizona State Lodge announced its support for Senate President Petersen, citing what it described as his consistent record of standing behind law enforcement priorities during his time in public office.
Paul Sheldon, president of the Arizona State Lodge, said the endorsement reflected the organization's belief that Petersen understands the day-to-day realities facing officers on the job.
Additionally, Sheldon noted that Petersen's support for public safety issues had not gone unrecognized within the law enforcement community.
Petersen responded warmly to the announcement, saying he was grateful for the organization's confidence in his candidacy. He pointed to his legislative record as evidence of a longstanding commitment to the men and women in uniform, framing his campaign around providing law enforcement with the tools and resources needed to keep communities safe.
