The casket of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk arrived in Phoenix on Thursday evening, as family, friends, and supporters began honoring his life.
His casket was flown from Salt Lake City, Utah, on Air Force Two with a military honor guard. A video from the airport showed Kirk’s wife, Erika Frantzve, looking emotional as she stood with Second Lady Usha Vance while the casket was moved.
After landing in Phoenix, police helped escort the casket through the city to Hansen Mortuary Chapel on Seventh Street, just north of Northern Avenue. Supporters stood along the roads, many waving American flags. The casket then arrived at the chapel just after 5:30 p.m.
Vice President JD Vance walked beside the casket in honor. President Donald Trump has then come out to say he plans to attend the funeral, which will be held in Arizona, Kirk’s home state.
Kirk’s Arizona Background
Kirk was a well-known voice in conservative politics. He founded Turning Point USA and often spoke at events in the Phoenix area, especially during the 2022 and 2024 elections. Since 2022, he has also led monthly Turning Point Faith meetings at Dream City Church in north Phoenix.
Turning Point USA has hosted its big yearly event, AmericaFest, in Phoenix since 2021. This year’s event is still set to take place from December 18–21 at the Phoenix Convention Center, where it had previously been held in Scottsdale, as reported by AZFamily.
People from across the country have come together to mourn Kirk’s passing, including many officials and community leaders in Arizona. Several state politicians have shared tributes, including Kari Lake, who called Kirk “Arizona’s son” in a recent post on X.
“Thank you for making us proud. Thank you for your love of country.” Kari Lake continued.
Kirk’s funeral and memorial details are expected to be shared soon.
