Ciscomani Calls for New Space Force Mission in Fort Huachuca

Representative Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) spearheaded a recent letter calling for Fort Huachuca to be used as the headquarters of a new Space Force mission.

Addressing Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink, Rep. Ciscomani argued that Fort Huachuca is the perfect site for the Space Force's new mission of enhancing space domain awareness and early threat detection.

"Fort Huachuca provides a strategically sound, operationally ready, and cost-effective location for this critical Space Force capability," said Rep. Ciscomani in the letter, adding, "Unlike other locations, the Fort already has the supporting infrastructure, quality of life, with the opportunity for joint operations. We respectfully urge your full consideration as the Department moves forward with its basing process."

The Arizona Congressman further emphasized how "Southern Arizona is the Astronomy Capital of America, with unique environmental conditions: minimal light pollution, low air traffic, and clear skies make Fort Huachuca an ideal location for optical and hybrid space sensing technologies."

Moreover, Ciscomani pointed out that the University of Arizona, with its leadership in AI-driven space object detection, and aerospace firms such as Northrop Grumman, Honeywell, and Raytheon having significant holdings in the area, "provide robust industrial capacity to support SDA innovation."

"In short, Fort Huachuca provides a strategically sound, operationally ready, and cost-effective location for this critical Space Force capability," Ciscomani concluded. "Unlike other locations, the Fort already has the supporting infrastructure, quality of life, with the opportunity for joint operations. We respectfully urge your full consideration as the Department moves forward with its basing process."

The letter comes on the heels of the Arizona Congressman's introduction of House Resolution 2493, which offers the state and federal government greater latitude in stewardship over land in and near military installations used for training, conservation, and public safety.

Like the previous bill, Ciscomani's recent letter asking Fort Huachuca to be the site of the Space Force's mission is endorsed by Sierra Vista Mayor Clea McCaa.
