Biggs Talks Border Security and Foreign Policy

Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) spoke with Cactus Politics at length over multiple issues, including border security and President Donald Trump's foreign trade and tariff policy.

On the border, Rep. Biggs described how Governor Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) did little to enforce the law, following the Biden Administration's lead as they let millions of illegal aliens into the country. As a result, Rep. Biggs shared Senator Ted Cruz's (R-TX) belief that accountability should include the possibility of criminal charges.

CACTUS POLITICS: You had mentioned Governor Katie Hobbs; there wasn't much that she did for immigration reform outside of what law enforcement was doing. Do you think that she failed Arizonans when it came to immigration issues, and she should be held accountable, as well as some of the people within the Biden administration, like Mayorkas?

BIGGS: Yeah, so we talked border security, and it was an utter failure. So you could go down to Cochise County. For instance, they were having two or three high-speed chases from the border through Sierra Vista, some of them were resulting in deadly crashes. You have in Yuma, she wanted to take down some barriers that were being erected there. The bottom line is, she basically adopted the Biden administration's plan, which was no fencing, no technology, no enforcement of the law.

CACTUS POLITICS: I spoke to Senator Ted Cruz today on [former Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro] Mayorkas, and he believes that a lot of these people within the Biden Administration should be held criminally accountable for allowing this to happen, directly or indirectly. I mean, it's a pretty simple product. They allow these people to get into the country.

BIGGS: Yeah. So early on, I suspected that President Biden's cognitive capacity was very unfinished, and I believe that Mayorkas was running the ship completely. And as things have panned out, and we're finding more information out, that seems to have been the case, Mayorkas should be held accountable.

Moving to foreign policy, the Arizona Congressman suggested that President Donald Trump is engaging in "strategic confusion," especially against China.

CACTUS POLITICS: We see the announcement that President Trump is going to negotiate with China, or is negotiating with China. What do you make of that? How do you feel about that?

BIGGS: Well, so I have called President Trump's foreign policy strategic confusion, which I think is actually a good description, and it's not the first time. He's not the first president to have ever used strategic confusion. Ronald Reagan, to a certain extent, used some of it too. I think it's very effective.

Biggs is running for governor of Arizona.
