FEMA CFO Fired After DOGE Discovered $59M Used to House Illegal Immigrants

The United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced the firing of its chief financial officer, Mary Comans after the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) found the agency had spent $59 million to house illegal immigrants in luxury hotel accommodations in New York City.

Elon Musk, the leader of DOGE, shared initial news of the findings on Monday.

“The DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants,” said Musk via X. “Spending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order.”

Benny Johnson, a prominent conservative commentator, broke the story of Comans' firing, saying that she is "arguably [the] most powerful person at FEMA," and received a quote from a Senior Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official confirming the firing.

“Effective immediately, FEMA is terminating the employment of four individuals for circumventing leadership to unilaterally make egregious payments for luxury NYC hotels for migrants," the Senior DHS official told Johnson. "Firings include FEMA’s Chief Financial Officer, two program analysts and a grant specialist. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership, DHS will not sit idly and allow deep state activists to undermine the will and safety of the American people.”

Moreover, Investigative journalist Laura Loomer played a part in sharing the news and pointed out the troublesome irony of the horrible conditions North Carolinians are facing from the hurricanes and floods sustained last year.

"BREAKING: FEMA’s Chief Financial Officer Mary Comans was just fired for illegally funding over $59 MILLION for illegal Aliens to stay in luxury hotels in NYC last week in violation of President Trump’s Executive Order. Meanwhile, hurricane and flood victims in North Carolina are freezing and starving in TENTS with zero FEMA money," wrote Loomer.

As The Floridian's Mateo Guillamont reported, the Trump campaign published information revealing FEMA had doubled its funding for non-governmental entities providing housing assistance to immigrants apprehended by the Department of Homeland Security.

FEMA upped its financing of such entities by around $300 million, from $363.8 in 2023 to $650 million in 2024.
