Republicans Applaud SCOTUS Ruling in Trump Immunity Case

The Supreme Court has ruled that Presidents have  immunity from prosecution in a 6-3 decision, which many Republicans are celebrating as delegitimizing the case against former President Donald Trump for election interference and the events of January 6th.

While Justice John Roberts specified that "official acts" are not prosecutable, the lower courts must determine what those are. Regardless, supporters of Trump have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate.

Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) simply stated, "President Donald J. Trump did nothing wrong. The hyperpolitical witch hunts must end."

In a second tweet, he mocked anti-Trump influencers who claimed the ruling now meant President Biden could officially prevent Trump from returning to the White House without penalty, saying, "The Not So Tolerant Left is falling apart because of a rightly decided SCOTUS ruling. What happened to "defending our democracy?"

Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) was brief and similarly mocking of reactions, saying, "Great news: The rule of law trumps an illegitimate political witch hunt."

Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) said the ruling "dealt another blow to the politically motivated Left that continues to weaponize our judicial system against President Trump," adding, "Hopefully this helps to move our election out of the courts and back into the hands of the voters."

Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) called it "a LOSS for the Left’s political prosecutions of President Trump, and a WIN for America and the Constitution."

In a follow-up post, Rep. Waltz suggested liberals dissatisfied with the ruling "will thank this Supreme Court in the future so that things like Obama’s drone strike killing of American citizen Anwar al-Awlaki isn’t subject to prosecution after a president is out of office."

Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) reiterated that "Without immunity, the President of the United States is unable to properly serve the American people and defend our nation," and attacked Special Counsel Jack Smith, calling his case against Trump "a disgrace to our legal system and it's time that our nation turns the page on this egregious lawfare because President Trump did nothing wrong."
