Last week, Americans For Prosperity, the libertarian-conservative activist group, organized a significant event called 'Fuel Up for Freedom.' This campaign, held in response to the increased gas prices that many Americans have been feeling, offered gasoline at a discounted rate of $2.38 a gallon. This stark reduction in price was a clear demonstration of how much the cost of gas has risen since President Joe Biden took office.
David Morris, the Director of Grassroots Operations at AFP, took the initiative to explain the campaign and its purpose. In a brief video, he stood in front of an Arco gas station where the price of gas was nearly $4 a gallon, providing a real-life context to the campaign's message.

"What a lot of people might not remember is that the day that Joe Biden took office, the price of gas was substantially less. So what we are going to do today is just remind people of what it was like back then by dropping the price all the way down to $2.38."
He continued to explain to customers how and why gas has become more expensive in the past three years.
"First of all is the overall inflation that has just been caused by out-of-control government spending. Our dollar just isn't worth as much as it used to be. The second thing is bad energy policy. You know, we have access to all sorts of energy that we are not taking advantage of right now, and that is directly because of the policies of Joe Biden," Morris explained.
One of the organizers recalled a gentleman who asked for a picture taken at the event and that he "likened it to a fishing story… "My friends will never believe this otherwise!"
Another said an older woman spoke with AFP about inflation during the event.
"The second one was an older lady who called her family and talked with us for 10 minutes or so until they arrived. She talked about her experience with inflation over the years, and how much worse it was since 2021 and how scared she is about trying to survive retirement now that her money isn't worth as much as it was when she made her retirement plans," they said.
AFP's Florida chapter held a similar event in August 2022, lowering gas prices to demonstrate the issues of inflation and energy policy and how they affect gas prices.
"We launched the 'True Cost of Washington' campaign to highlight the rising cost burden on consumers and businesses," said AFP-FL State Director Carrie Thompson-Kirkpatrick.
