NRA supports additional ‘bump stock’ restrictions after Las Vegas shooting

The term “bump stock” is one that many of Americans are now becoming familiar with after it was learned that the man responsible for the Las Vegas shooting that killed 59 and wounded hundreds of others, used this guns accessory to all-but convert his semi-automatic rifles to full-automatic.

According to the New York Times, “a “bump stock” replaces a rifle’s standard stock, which is the part held against the shoulder. It frees the weapon to slide back and forth rapidly, harnessing the energy from the kickback shooters feel when the weapon fires.

Now the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA), which has opposed any kind of restrictions on gun control and gun rights, is open to tighter restrictions on the sale of these “bump stocks” as  a result of the shooting.

“The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations.” - NRA statement

Florida Senator Bill Nelson (D) recently sponsored a bill calling for a ban of “bump stock” sales for the kind of rifles used in the deadly Las Vegas shooting.

Meanwhile, many Democratic members of the U.S. Congress are still demanding sweeping gun control measures, aside from Nelson’s bill. Should regulations be tightened on 'bump stocks?'
