Heated Women's Sports Hearing Spills Onto Social Media

The heated exchange between former Utah State volleyball player Kaylie Ray and State Senator Catherine Miranda (D-11) is gaining national attention, and Arizona Republicans are weighing in on social media.

Ray testified in favor of House Resolution 2003, which requires Arizona school and athletic associations to designate teams as male, female, or co-ed, prohibiting transgender athletes from playing on women's teams.

State Sen. Miranda raised eyebrows by questioning, "I mean, you look pretty healthy… You look very much in shape and strong. So how competitive do you think you really are?"

The hearing snowballed from there.

State Senate President Warren Petersen (R-14) expressed disbelief on social media, writing, "I can not tell you how often the Democrats say totally insane stuff like this and there is zero media coverage."

"Refreshing that the public finally has a small glimpse into how radical our Dem legislators are," State Sen. Petersen continued. "All of them voted to allow boys in girls' sports and private places. ALL OF THEM."

Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ), writing from his personal account, mockingly added, "One of Katie Hobbs’ allies embarrassing our state again. This is what we’re up against in Arizona. Men should not be playing in women’s sports!

Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) also weighed in, commenting, "Men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports. This is not complicated. Unless you’re an elected democrat, I guess."

In late February, the Arizona House passed House Bill 2085, which prohibits all gender transition treatment for minors and prevents healthcare professionals from referring young people to those treatments.

The bill furthermore blocks taxpayer money from being used to fund these procedures through public programs, government facilities, or state employees, and stops the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) from covering or reimbursing them.
