Trump Calls On Congress To Address DACA

President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, is on its last leg of existence as President Trump is expected to announce the cancellation of the immigration executive order that allows some 800,000 illegal immigrant children to legally stay in the United States.

In a move to try to garner (pander) political support from the growing Hispanic population, President Obama signed his executive order, instead of pressing the U.S.Congress to due its job of writing immigration legislation that he could later sign into law.

President Trump is expected to delay the enforcement of his DACA executive order for 6 months, giving the US Congress ample time to write legislation that would benefit both those DACA children that came here illegally at no fault of their own, and those who have been waiting in line to enter the US legally.

This decision to grant legal status to foreigners is not for any one president to make, rather its within the purview of US Congress to make that call.

So, now the pressure is on both Republican and Democratic members of congress to come together and do what they were elected to do.

We can all sympathize for these DREAMers, who may only know what it is to live in the United States. But regardless of their unfortunate circumstance, this is a matter of law, and legislators need to weigh all options before they stroke that final bill.

Unfortunately, the US Congress has continued to fail us on issues like tax reform, healthcare reform, and immigration. Hopefully, legislators will address the DACA issue in a way that reflects our America’s opposition to illegal immigration and support for legal immigration.
