O'Halleran Retains House Seat for Democrats. Babeu's Past Defeated Him

Trump held on to Arizona, McCain won re-election, and Republicans held their majorites in the state legislature. Aside from loosing Sheriff Joe Arpaio, it was a very good night for Arizona Republicans, except for Paul Babeu who ran for the congressional seat vacated by congressowman Ann Kirkpatrick.

This was one of the nastiest house races in the country, with Congressman elect Tom O'Halleran launching a barrage of negative advertisements against the sheriff, who was expected to at least compete. Babue went down by a stagering 8%. Ultimately what did him him was Hillary Clinton and the Democrat's strength in Cocochino and Apache counties, home of Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University.

Babue thanked his supporters on Facebook:
