State Senate President Warren Petersen (R-14) blasted Arizona Attorney General (AG) Kris Mayes on social media in response to a campaign ad she posted, writing, "The level of dishonesty, corruption, and lies from Mayes is truly disturbing."
The 30-second ad posted by Mayes claims that Sen. Petersen voted against pro-police policies 100 times during his tenure in office and threatened law enforcement, with AG Mayes writing, "I work every day with Arizona sheriffs and police to get fentanyl off our streets, take down human traffickers, and put violent criminals behind bars. My opponent? He’s voted against Arizona law enforcement more than 100 times, including funding for officers and pensions for them and their families."
She also posted a link to a website called "Petersen vs the Police."
"Mayes is following the rules for radicals," State Sen. Petersen replied to the post, referencing Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, adding, "She calls me what she is. Pay to play is Mayes. Harming law enforcement is Mayes. Mayes is a pathological liar. She lied to your face during our debate. Right into the camera about her unprofessional behavior. Then admitted afterwards that it was true. Now she has another lying ad that describes herself."
He further suggested that "the reality is that Mayes is a pariah in the law enforcement community. Ask the law enforcement community. They can't stand her."
Petersen pointed to Arizona's unfortunate record for drug overdose deaths and claimed that "Her PR person said we need to defund the police," which is currently unverified, but Mayes allegedly cooperated with a far-left group that sought to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and defund police.
He further reiterated that Mayes seemingly encouraged shooting at ICE officers in January, which Petersen noted that Governor Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) rebuked the claim.
"The level of dishonesty, corruption and lies from Mayes is truly disturbing," Petersen concluded.
