Andy Biggs Rips Katie Hobbs for Refusing to Implement Education Freedom Tax Credit

In a recent statement, Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) ripped Governor Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) for not implementing the Education Freedom Tax Credit in Arizona.

What is the Tax Credit?

The Education Freedom Tax Credit offers individuals in participating states a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit for contributions to eligible K-12 scholarship programs.

This not only funds a variety of educational expenses, including tuition, tutoring, technology, special education, and therapeutic programs. It also gives taxpayers greater control over how their money is spent on education and expands school choice for students and families.

So far, 31 states have agreed to participate in the program.

Arizona is not one of them.

Biggs's Response

"I was pleased to vote for this tax credit, which expands educational freedom for thousands of parents who want a better education and a brighter future for their children," said Rep. Biggs in a press release. "It's a win for families, students, and taxpayers—and it was made possible by Republicans in Congress and the Trump Administration. Unfortunately, Arizona families are being denied the full benefits of this program because Governor Katie Hobbs has refused to opt our state in."

Rep. Biggs emphasized that "Because of her failure, Arizona students will miss out on scholarship dollars that could help pay for tuition, tutoring, technology, special education services, and other educational needs. That's why I'm calling on Governor Hobbs to join the thirty states that have already opted in and give Arizona families access to the Education Freedom Tax Credit. Arizonans should not have to watch their tax dollars create educational opportunities for students in other states simply because their governor refuses to participate."

Dems: Anti-School Choice?

The Arizona congressman's comments comes on the heels of the Republican National Committee (RNC) ripping Democratic candidates JoAnna Mendoza and Amish Shah for their own "anti-school choice" agendas, both of whom have spoken against the Grand Canyon State's Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program.
