The Primaries Are Done & Arizona's November Matchups Are Now Official.

Arizona's primary elections delivered a packed night of results Tuesday, setting up several high-stakes November matchups across the state's congressional districts and statewide offices.

The most closely watched Democratic congressional primary was in the 1st District, where, with 78 percent of votes counted, former state lawmaker Dr. Amish Shah (D-AZ) led with 41.8 percent over former television journalist Marlene Galán-Woods (D-AZ) at 32.5 percent, with Jonathan Treble (D-AZ) at 17.3 percent.

The race remained competitive with votes still being counted. The winner will face Republican Jay Feely (R-AZ), who led his primary with 49.4 percent over Joseph Chaplik (R-AZ) at 35.3 percent, with a third candidate taking 15.3 percent, in a district considered one of the most competitive toss-up seats in the entire country.

On the Republican side, several incumbents sailed through uncontested. Eli Crane (R-AZ) won District 2, Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) won District 6, Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) won District 8, and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) won District 9, all without opposition.

Additional Winners

In District 5, Mark Lamb (R-AZ) won with 58.6 percent over Daniel Keenan's (R-AZ) 41.4 percent.

Democrats also had several uncontested winners. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ)won District 3, Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) won District 7, and JoAnna Mendoza (D-AZ)won District 6 unopposed.

Additionally, Greg Stanton (D-AZ) won District 4 with a commanding 67.7 percent. In District 8, Bernadette Greene-Placentia (D-AZ) won with 64.7 percent.

The secretary of state race produced a notable outcome with State Representative Alexander Kolodin (R-AZ) defeating former Arizona Republican Party chair Gina Swoboda (R-AZ) to earn the GOP nomination, setting up a November showdown with Democratic incumbent Adrian Fontes (D-AZ).

Carrying Weight

However, the race carries significant weight; Arizona's secretary of state oversees elections in one of the country's most closely watched battleground states, and the winner will hold that role heading into the 2028 presidential election.

Kolodin, backed by Turning Point USA, has questioned past election results and led several lawsuits challenging the 2020 and 2022 outcomes. Fontes, who administered Arizona's 2024 election when Trump carried the state, is seeking a second term.

Continuing into the Attorney General race, incumbent Kris Mayes (D-AZ) ran unopposed, easily securing her party's nomination for a second term. The Republican primary produced a clear winner as well, with Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen (R-AZ) claiming the GOP nomination, defeating former Tucson City Councilman Rodney Glassman (R-AZ).

Tuesday's results set the stage for what promises to be one of the most consequential election cycles in Arizona's recent history, with control of the governor's office, a key House seat, and the future of the state's election administration all on the line come November.
