Abe Hamadeh Pushes Senate to Pass SAVE America Act in House Reconciliation Package

Representative Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) is once again pushing for the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act now that the House has folded portions of the bill into a reconciliation package.

What the House Did

House Republicans were able to include provisions of the SAVE America Act, a piece of legislation that President Donald Trump has made a crucial part of his second term, into a $95 billion reconciliation package.

The reconciliation package, which allocates $10 billion to implement the SAVE America Act, allows the GOP to pass fiscal policy in the Senate via a simple majority rather than the mandatory 60 votes, sidestepping Democrats and Republican holdouts alike.

The package passed in the House by a narrow majority almost entirely along party lines, although some Republican budget hawks wanted cuts to offset the hefty $95 billion price tag, which includes $73 billion to fight Iran and $12 billion for agricultural aid.

What Hamadeh is Saying

Nevertheless, Rep. Hamadeh said in a press release, "Election integrity is essential to protecting the voice of the American people and preserving our Constitutional Republic. Our elections should be decided by only American citizens with every lawful ballot protected."

"I am proud to support the SAVE America Act," Rep. Hamadeh continued. "The Senate must stop delaying action and join the House in defending the integrity of our elections and protecting the sacred right of American citizens to vote."

Past Advocacy

The Arizona congressman has been giving the Senate an earful to pass the SAVE America Act since March, when he posted on social media, "Americans don't need another demonstration that Democrats don't care about election integrity. We KNOW that already. They need the security measures in the SAVE America Act."

In May, after Virginia Democrats lost a Supreme Court case on redistricting, Hamadeh posted, "Now more than ever, we need the SAVE America Act — documentary proof of citizenship, strict voter ID, and real fraud protections. Time to act, @SenateGOP. Pass it now and secure America's elections."

A post in June was Hamadeh's harshest toward the Senate GOP yet, writing, "It's not Trump these Senate Republicans hate—it's their own voters."
