Representatives Eli Crane (R-AZ) and Andy Biggs (R-AZ) commended the FBI and its Director Kash Patel on social media after reports indicated they arrested individuals allegedly plotting to attack the UFC 250 Freedom match with drones.
According to the New York Post, five suspects have been arrested for an alleged plan in which explosive-laden drones would strike nearby buildings, causing panic, and the crowd would be herded into an area where snipers would begin picking people off. From there, a "second wave" would storm the White House gate.
A captured suspect allegedly told the FBI they were targeting "capitalist elites," "billionaires," and politicians who have taken money from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Additionally, the FBI found a Signal chat containing 23 individuals discussing plans for the attack, and executed a warrant to arrest one of the planners on June 10th in Cincinnati. Several more were captured in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where they were allegedly preparing.
Rep. Crane, who shared the New York Post article, wrote, "An important reminder that we need to keep doing more to protect the Homeland against the evolving threat of drones."
Rep. Crane has expressed deep concern about the potential for a drone attack on American soil in recent months, arguing that the United States has not caught up with countermeasures. He introduced a bipartisan bill in May that strengthens the National Guard's ability to counter drones with Representatives Michael McCaul (R-TX), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ).
Meanwhile, Rep. Biggs shared on social media Fox News's coverage of the alleged terror plot, writing, "Another scary reminder that America's enemies - both domestic and international - are plotting every day to destroy our way of life, our freedoms, and our sense of security. Kudos to Director Patel and his team for their heroic work to stop this attack before it happened."
