Andy Biggs Says Democrats 'Don't Understand American Sovereignty' in DHS Funding Fight

Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) ripped Democrats, accusing them of continuing to refuse to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and saying they "don't seem to understand American sovereignty."

"I think that this is thematically consistent with where they have been," Rep. Biggs said in a recent appearance on Fox News. "First, they opened the border and prevented our federal law enforcement from enforcing the border. Then they tried to debunk police forces, local and state, all over the country, and now you get the federal forces having to deal with the aftermath of those two disastrous Democrat policies, and they don't want to allow us to even fund these folks."

Rep. Biggs continued, "I think this is just as consistent with how they don't seem to understand American sovereignty, the need for safety in this country, and they do not appreciate President Trump's policies, which have secured our border better than any President in my lifetime."

The host played footage of Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) voicing opposition to the DHS shutdown, arguing that DHS is needed to secure the venues where the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held, a view the Arizona congressman agreed with.

Biggs said the stadiums are "16 Super Bowls going on at various parts around this country," and thus "we need all hands on deck."

"But this massive shutdown on the part of the Democrats," Biggs stated, "where they do not tolerate [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], they do not tolerate [Customs and Border Protection], just think about this: When Secretary Mullin briefed some of us, he indicated that they had given up virtually on every issue that the Democrats wanted except for those two or three which would protect our law enforcement. So the Democrats did not want to protect our law enforcement, and their shutdown does not protect the American people."

Biggs concluded, "Fetterman is right, and this is a huge problem, and that is why we have got to get this done this week."
