Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) condemned the recent protest outside of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Newark, New Jersey, in a recent social media post, writing, "May God unify our country around its laws."
The protest began on Memorial Day and featured prominent Democrats in the crowd, including New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherill and Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ), the latter allegedly hit with pepper spray after protesters briefly clashed with ICE agents.
This incident prompted Representative Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) to demand the ICE facility's closure, writing, "If ICE is willing to use force against elected officials and protestors asking questions, imagine what's happening behind closed doors to everyone else."
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted to X (formerly Twitter), "These rioters have OBSTRUCTED law enforcement operations—a felony and a crime. Local police have refused to answer calls to help our law enforcement. We will not allow violent rioters to slow @ICEgov down. Law and order will be restored."
Rep. Biggs replied, "I fail to understand why any public servant of America would stand against law enforcement efforts to protect our communities."
"Our nation cannot exist when support for the rule of law is bifurcated by partisan politics," Rep. Biggs continued, concluding with a plea of "May God unify our country around its laws."
The Arizona congressman has been a fierce critic of Democrats for their border stance, previously saying on Fox News that "I think this is just as consistent with how they don't seem to understand American sovereignty, the need for safety in this country, and they do not appreciate President Trump's policies, which have secured our border better than any President in my lifetime."
Biggs further blamed Democrats for having "opened the border and prevented our federal law enforcement from enforcing the border. Then they tried to debunk police forces, local and state, all over the country, and now you get the federal forces having to deal with the aftermath of those two disastrous Democrat policies, and they don't want to allow us to even fund these folks."
