Yassamin Ansari Introduces Articles of Impeachment Against Pete Hegseth

Representative Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) has introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for "repeatedly violating his oath of office and his duty to the Constitution."

Specifically, Rep. Ansari points to the Signal chat leak last year, along with the ongoing conflict against Iran.

"Pete Hegseth broke his oath to the Constitution, put U.S. troops at grave risk through the unauthorized disclosure of classified information, engaged in abuse of office and conduct beneath the dignity of his office, and carried out unlawful military actions despite his obligation to refuse, including strikes on civilians and a girls' school in Minab, Iran. Hegseth's conduct meets the threshold of high crimes and misdemeanors and warrants immediate removal by Congress," Rep. Ansari said in a press release. "As the daughter of Iranian immigrants and as someone who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, I know this absolutely cannot continue. The stakes for U.S. servicemembers and our national security, the Iranian people and innocent civilians everywhere, and global stability are too high to ignore."

The Arizona congresswoman previously vowed to hold Hegseth and President Donald Trump accountable, particularly after Trump threatened Iran with apocalyptic destruction ahead of the ongoing ceasefire.

"Donald Trump threatened genocide and war crimes against Iranians," Ansari said earlier this month after President Trump's "whole civilization" threat. "His statements that 'a whole civilization will die' and that he'll take Iran 'back to the stone ages' confirm that he is mentally unstable, unhinged, and unfit for office or any position of authority."

Simultaneously, Representative Greg Stanton (D-AZ) has co-launched a permanent commission to evaluate the President's capacity to continue serving in his role with Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), since Democrats have been invoking the 25th Amendment about Trump.

"The President's age, health, and increasingly erratic conduct are raising serious questions about his capacity to carry out his duties," said Rep. Stanton.
