Kris Mayes Secures 3-Year Sentence for Fentanyl Dealer

Arizona Attorney General (AG) Kris Mayes recently secured a conviction of 2.75 years for a female fentanyl dealer.

Geraldine Aboyte attempted to sell 1.5 pounds of fentanyl in April 2025 and was indicted on 4 charges, pleading guilty to attempting to sell a narcotic drug, which is a Class 3 felony.

Humberto Martin Osuna Jr., another member of the alleged conspiracy to sell, was indicted with 27 counts.

While details are not currently known, Aboyte's lower number of charges and short sentence suggests she was likely an accomplice to Osuna rather than the ringleader.

Nevertheless, Aboyte was sentenced to 2.75 years in prison and must pay $4,500 to the state’s anti-racketeering revolving fund and $2,800 to the Arizona Department of Public Safety for investigative costs.

In a press release, AG Mayes said, "Fentanyl is killing Arizonans, and my office will hold those who sell these deadly drugs accountable." "There are serious consequences for trafficking illicit drugs in our communities," the attorney general added.

Last February, Mayes backed House Bill 2733, a bill authorizing Arizona law enforcement to shoot down drones used by the Mexican drug cartels, which she called "an important tool" in fighting the cartels, as the Grand Canyon State is the "epicenter of this terrible fentanyl crisis."

She emphasized that "more than half of all the fentanyl seized in the United States was actually seized in Arizona over the last two years. We are at the epicenter of this terrible fentanyl crisis, and so by allowing our local law enforcement officials, including our sheriffs, our police chiefs, and police along the border, to shoot these drones down, you know that those are lives saved."

In Congress, Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ) took things up a notch in June with the reintroduction of his Death Penalty for Dealing Fentanyl Act, which makes selling or distributing the notoriously deadly drug can expect the death penalty or life in prison if the fentanyl they sold killed someone.
