Greg Stanton Celebrates Security for Veterans in NDAA

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which funds defense priorities and national security programs, passed the House this week, and Representative Greg Stanton (D-AZ) is celebrating a legislative victory for veterans.

The legislation passed the House on Wednesday with a final vote of 312-112.

Representatives Greg Stanton and Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) worked together to secure support of Arizona's Fourth District through authorization for three AH-64E Apache helicopters manufactured by Boeing,

Both lawmakers advocated for upgraded air conditioning at Luke Air Force Base, requiring the Secretary of the Air Force to address the base's outdated HVAC system and ventilation issues.

Legislation Focus

Stanton collaborated with Representative Jen Kiggans (R-VA) on provisions to limit the Department of War’s (DoW) use of foreign technology potentially influenced by the Chinese Communist Party, focusing on commercial off-the-shelf information technology products. Additionally, the legislation provides a 3.8% pay raise to all military personnel and includes employment protections.

“This year's NDAA delivers real improvements for servicemembers struggling with the cost of living, takes concrete steps to demonstrate to our allies that the United States still stands with them, and provides significant oversight measures to counter actions taken by the Trump Administration," Stanton explained in a statement.

Additional Requirements

As co-chair of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, Stanton helped authorize up to $1 billion in funding for Taiwan to acquire US military equipment and receive training.

The legislation also lifts sanctions on Syria to support the country's economic rebuilding and international relationships.

The bill requires the DOW to release documentation about military strikes in Latin America before receiving specific funding and mandating regular reports to Congress on military support for immigration enforcement.

"I was proud to work across the aisle to invest in our state's critical defense industry and its military installations," Stanton concluded.

This bipartisan measure plans to ensure quality care and security for veterans.

The NDAA has now moved to the Senate and is expected to be voted on before the year ends.
