Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) questioned why Democrats "lie so much" in an X post as the new continuing resolution (CR) heads to the House of Representatives to end the government shutdown.
As Cactus Politics has previously reported, the new continuing resolution that passed with Senate Democrats' support does not extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies that have been at the heart of the shutdown, and includes three full-year funding bills, SNAP benefits provided through next September, and the government operating under a short-term mandate through the end of January.
House Democrats, including Representative Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ), have signaled they will not vote for the bill, with Rep. Ansari saying it "does absolutely nothing to protect healthcare for 24 million Americans."
Notably, she accused Republicans of being at fault for the mounting crisis.
Rep. Crane responded to a post shared by Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman regarding Democrats voting against the new CR, saying, "If it was a 'Republican shutdown' like they kept insisting… how do you explain this? Why do they lie so much?"
The Arizona Congressman previously predicted that Democrats, especially Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), would be to blame for the shutdown, saying in late September, "if Democrats are willing to shut down the government over taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries and healthcare for illegals, they can own the consequences."
Similarly, Crane's colleague, Representative Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), accused Democrats of having "created this healthcare cliff and now want to use the shutdown to force Republicans to bail them out of their own mess, on their own terms."
"I won't play that game," Rep. Ciscomani declared. "Re-open the federal government and we can discuss solutions, as we had been doing before they forced this shutdown, to deliver real relief for working families without turning troops, border agents, or veterans into political bargaining chips."
