Representative Andy Biggs has introduced three new pieces of legislation to improve services and benefits for American veterans.
The bills, reported by The Daily Signal, focus on making burial procedures easier, increasing oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and expanding healthcare options for former service members.
"This Veterans Day, we must recommit to honoring our nation's heroes. I've introduced three bills for our veterans that ease financial burdens, expand healthcare freedom, and hold the VA accountable," Biggs wrote on X.
The Veterans' Cremation Certainty Act would allow veterans to pre-select direct cremation as part of their burial benefits. Under the proposed law, payments would go directly to burial providers when a veteran passes away, simplifying the process for grieving families.
The Claims Legitimacy and Evaluation Accountability Nationwide for VA Act aims to strengthen oversight and reduce corruption within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The bill would increase penalties for VA employees who commit fraud and require a review of how the VA rates disabilities. The goal is to ensure veterans receive proper care and that taxpayer money isn't wasted.
The HSA for Heroes Act would allow eligible veterans to open and use health savings accounts to pay for caregiving and medical expenses. Veterans would be able to save money on healthcare costs while still keeping their existing VA benefits.
The bills will need to go through the congressional committee process and be voted on by both the House and Senate before they can become law.
“God bless our veterans, and God bless the United States of America,” Biggs emphasized.
