Schweikert on Shutdown
Representative David Schweikert (R-AZ) expressed concern over the ongoing government shutdown in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Mornings with Maria, admitting that "it has already lasted longer than I thought it would."
During his interview, the Arizona Republican shared that "even some Democrats actually have scruples of saying this is absurd," adding that "the Democrat base has become so extreme that they are willing to burn down even many of their own constituents, their own neighbors, to try to create pain, particularly pain for those on the Republican side."
Host Maria Bartiromo noted that many are expecting the shutdown to last weeks, asking Rep. Schweikert if he believed the same.
"In my fears, that is what it is looking more like," the Arizona Congressman responded. "And think about how unreasonable Senate Democrats have become."

Senator Mark Kelly: If the President wants to discuss fixing American’s health care as it’s about to head over the cliff, we are ready to do that. Let’s work together to solve this.
Senator Ruben Gallego: When I talk about protecting the ACA, I’m fighting for my constituents like Steve from Gilbert, whose son had a heart transplant as a baby. If Republicans let ACA subsidies expire, his family’s health insurance could become unaffordable overnight. That’s what this is about.
Representative Paul Gosar: The federal government shut down because Senate Democrats, including AZ Senators Ruben Gallego and Mark Kelly, voted repeatedly to block the funding bill to keep the government open. They get another chance to do the right thing today by voting in favor of the CR.
Representative Eli Crane: Today, I joined all Republican members of Arizona's congressional delegation in urging Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego to end the shutdown. Instead of playing political games, our senators should put the interests of Arizonans first.
Representative Juan Ciscomani: Senate Democrats - including both of Arizona’s Senators - just voted to prolong this harmful shutdown. Senator Kelly and Senator Gallego continue to put politics over people. Please know that my office remains open, providing full services to my constituents.
Representative Abe Hamadeh: Rogue judges are one of the biggest problems facing our country. In their efforts to stop the agenda the majority of the American people voted for, these courts continue to delegitimize themselves. President Trump has the backing of the American people. He also has the authority vested in him by the United States Constitution. And he is showing the American people that it is possible to have safety and security, even despite the best efforts of the militant left and their enablers in the judiciary to foment chaos.
Representative Greg Stanton: I visited Sky Harbor Airport with @RepYassAnsari and @MayorGallego to check on frontline crews keeping travel safe while the Republican shutdown drags on. We are committed to negotiating a deal on health care that will end this shutdown so these employees don't need to work another day without a paycheck.
Representative Yassamin Ansari: We deserve to know if @ICEgov is using a spyware program to access private information without an owner's consent. Once again, @DHSgov is violating constitutional rights to target immigrants & people of color. I join @RepSummerLee in calling @Sec_Noem for answers ASAP.
