Ruben Gallego Joins Letter Demanding Trump Stick By Not Letting Israel Annex West Bank

Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) signed a recent letter to President Donald Trump urging him to stand by his commitment not to let Israel annex the West Bank, as the continued ceasefire with Hamas hangs in the balance.

Israel occupied the West Bank, also known by the Biblical name of Judea and Samaria, during its war against Hamas in retaliation for the October 7th attacks, and President Trump has recently negotiated a ceasefire as part of an ongoing peace plan.

During an address to the United Nations General Assembly in September, Trump said, "I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank... It's not going to happen."

"We write to express support for your comments opposing any efforts by the Government of Israel to annex territory in the West Bank and to urge your Administration to promote steps to preserve the viability of a two-state solution and the success of the Abraham Accords," the letter from Senate Democrats began, adding, "Since your plan for Gaza does not address the West Bank, it is imperative that your Administration reinforce your comments and emphasize its opposition to annexation."

After all, Sen. Gallego and the other emphasized, allowing the annexation renders the Abraham Accords moot and prevents their potential expansion to the rest of the Arab world.

Nevertheless, the letter expresses gratitude for Trump's rescuing of the remaining hostages held by Hamas as part of the ceasefire deal, saying, "We are relieved that the hostages have been released, and it is vital that humanitarian aid surge into Gaza; the remains of deceased hostages, including Americans Omer Neutra and Itay Chen, be returned to their families; and that the ceasefire be sustained."

Sen. Gallego and the letter's signatories are not the only Democrats relieved that the hostages have been released, as Representative Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) posted to X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the news broke, "I am deeply relieved to see the release of all living hostages from Gaza and that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is holding."
