Karrin Taylor Robson is speaking out about the growing national debt, which just reached a new record of $38 trillion this week.
The Arizona gubernatorial candidate isn't holding back in her criticism of Washington. "Thanks to career politicians in DC, our national debt just hit a record $38 trillion," Robson shared on X. "Congress keeps writing checks it can't cash, piling debt onto our kids and grandkids, and weakening our economy."
According to Treasury Department data released this week, the national debt reached $38 trillion on October 21. This milestone comes just two months after the debt crossed $37 trillion in mid-August, and less than a year after it passed $36 trillion last December.
Robson places significant blame on what she calls Washington's spending habits. She argues that while President Donald Trump is working to address the issue, Congress continues spending without considering future generations. "Congress keeps piling on debt with no regard for our children's future," she said.
Growing Debt
Social Security and Medicare are among the most significant factors to this growth. As the population ages, these programs require increasing amounts of funding each year. Meanwhile, corporate tax revenues have declined, widening the gap between spending and income. The federal government ran a budget deficit of approximately $1.8 trillion in the fiscal year that ended September 30.
The Congressional Budget Office projects continued debt growth. The agency estimates that debt held by the public will increase from about 100% of GDP in 2025 to 120% of GDP by 2035.
Over the next ten years, reports show federal spending is expected to total $88 trillion while tax revenue will be around $65 trillion.
Robson has highlighted the importance of fiscal responsibility throughout her campaign. "As Governor, I'll do what Washington won't: stop the growth of government, stop tax and spend schemes, and demand accountability for every dollar," she's declared.
