Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) discussed the government shutdown as it enters its third week in a recent appearance on One America News Network's Matt Gaetz Show, warning that Democrats will shut the government down again if Republicans allow them to in the future.
Rep. Crane shared an excerpt of his interview on X. "If Republicans cave, Democrats will continue using shutdowns as leverage to push their demands. Thankfully, President Trump has taken steps to pay our troops," he warned.
In his interview, Rep. Crane noting that "Democrats, even some in my own state, we have got Senator [Mark] Kelly (D-AZ) and others trying to convince the American people that this is the Republicans' fault, and as you well know, that will go to the end of November."
House Republicans passed the continuing resolution (CR), which Senate Democrats have refused to approve due to disagreements.
Nevertheless, the Arizona Congressman commended President Donald Trump for finding a means to pay the military during the shutdown, as "who knows how long this is going to go on."
Still, Crane expressed hope for Republican leadership to continue "to hold a hard line, because if we cave on this, it is going to be a very difficult three years going forward. Every time we try to fund the government, the Democrats will come in and say, 'We want X, Y, and Z." "If you do not give it to us, we are going to shut down the government.' So it is very important, especially this early in the game, that we hold the line, put political pressure on them, and remind the American people whose fault this is," he stressed.
Crane fiercely criticized Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) last week for saying every day the shutdown persists, Democrats gain political momentum.
"Senate Democrats are hurting people every day. And they feel increasingly good about it," Crane shared on X.
