Arizona State Senator Analise Ortiz is facing calls for her removal from office after federal investigators revealed that the gunman in Wednesday's deadly Dallas ICE shooting had researched methods to track federal agents' locations.
The conflict began from Analise Ortiz's August 5th Instagram post in which she informed her Phoenix community that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were operating near Southwest Elementary School in South Phoenix. The post was intended to alert residents to the presence of federal agents in the area.
Following the Dallas shooting investigation, Arizona Senator Jake Hoffman has called for Ortiz's expulsion from the state senate, arguing that publicly sharing ICE locations creates safety risks for federal agents.
Dallas Shooting Investigation
The connection rose after FBI investigators revealed details about the Dallas attacker's preparation methods. Joshua Jahn, a 29-year-old U.S. citizen from Fairview, Texas, opened fire at a Dallas ICE facility on Wednesday, killing one detainee and injuring two others before taking his own life with an 8mm bolt-action rifle.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced that investigators working around the clock have uncovered evidence of extensive planning, including:
- Digital searches between August 19-24 for applications that track ICE agent locations
- Downloads of a document listing Department of Homeland Security facilities
- Research on ballistics and weaponry between September 23-24
- Handwritten notes expressing intent to terrorize ICE agents
Physical evidence included shell casings with anti-ICE messages, including one engraved with "ANTI ICE."
Political Response
Jake Hoffman then took to social media, requesting that the Arizona Senate expel Ortiz and that federal prosecutors investigate her actions. He argues that sharing ICE location information assists individuals who may wish to harm federal agents.
If expulsion efforts fail, Hoffman has called for Ortiz to be stripped of committee assignments and other legislative privileges.
“If Senate Democrats protect Senator Ortiz and the kinds of murderous monsters she’s aiding by blocking expulsion, then at the very least, Ortiz should be stripped of all her privileges, committees, staff, etc,” he expressed on social media. “THE ERA OF A TWO TIERED JUSTICE SYSTEM MUST END NOW.”
The FBI continues to process evidence from the Dallas shooting, with Director Patel emphasizing that the investigation shows "a high degree of pre-attack planning." Federal investigators are working to analyze all materials seized from the crime scene and the shooter's residence.
