Charlie Kirk News Conference Announces 'We Got Him'

The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, and in a press conference, Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) announced "good morning, ladies and gentlemen. We got him."

In an FBI news conference where Utah Governor Cox and FBI Director Kash Patel spoke, officials announced that the leading suspect in the shooting of Turning Point CEO Charlie Kirk has been arrested.

Governor Cox provided information on the suspect, noting that those close to him had mentioned that "Robinson had become more political in recent years."

"Robinson had mentioned Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU" to his relatives, and the suspect believed that "Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate."

Officials found a "bolt action rifle wrapped in a dark colored towel" when surveying the crime scene, and shell casings had a number of engravings, one of which was "if you read this, you are gay, LMAO."

The governor concluded his statement by saying that they are bringing an end to this "very dark chapter in our nation's history."

FBI Director Patel also shared some comments, saying that the arrest proves that "this is what happens when you let good cops be cops."

"In thirty-three hours, we have made historic progress for Charlie," the director noted, sharing that the arrest brings "justice to the family of Charlie Kirk and his family."

"To my friend, Charlie. Rest now, brother. We have the watch, and I'll see you in Valhalla," Director Patel shared.

Governor Spencer shared some more comments regarding ongoing political violence around the country, sharing that “violence is tragic everywhere, and every life taken is a child of god who deserves our love and respect and dignity."

He explained that the shooting of Kirk "it is an attack on all of us. It is an attack on the American experiment. It is an attack on our ideals. This cuts to the very foundation of who we are.”

Talking to the young people in the U.S., Governor Spencer shared that “young people loved Charlie, and young people hated Charlie, and Charlie went into those places anyway."

Remembering words that Kirk had mentioned to him, Governor Cox shared, "Charlie said, when people stop talking that’s when you get violence… forgiveness is the attribute of the strong… always forgive your enemies. Nothing annoys them so much.”

"You are inheriting a country where politics feels like rage. It feels like rage is the only option… we have a reminder that we can choose a different path," he concluded.

The suspect has been booked into Utah County Jail after his family and friends helped deliver him to authorities.
