Gallego Cosponsors Bill Restoring Inflation Reduction Act Clean Energy Tax Credits

Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) is cosponsoring legislation to restore clean energy tax credits found in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which were eliminated in the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB).

As Sen. Gallego explained, the IRA offered tax credits for wind and solar energy. Without these credits, he claims, energy bills will increase, and nearly 1 million jobs will be lost by 2030 due to 300 factories going unconstructed or never opening.

Within Arizona, that means $110 more in energy bills, 134 construction projects promising 69,000 potential new jobs will never get off the ground, and $58 billion in capital investment lost, shrinking the economy by $2.89 billion in 2030 and $1.8 billion in 2035.

Thus, the Lowering Electric Bills Act restores these tax credits.

"When they voted for their 'Big Beautiful Bill,' Republicans wiped out the investments that were lowering electricity costs for hardworking families, creating tens of thousands of good-paying jobs, and bringing billions of dollars of investment to Arizona," said Sen. Gallego in his press release, adding, "I'm proud to support the Lowering Electric Bills Act to restore the tax credits that made those investments possible."

Restoration of IRA tax credits is the latest government cut that the Arizona Senator has sought to reverse.

In March, Gallego urged against potential firings or removals of employees who work at the Department of Veterans Affairs' Veterans Crisis Line, which is the hotline for veterans and their families to call in mental health crises. That same month, he also demanded that the Phoenix Bureau of Indian Affairs Office remain open and that the Trump Administration reverse budget cuts for the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund.

Later in May, Gallego joined Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) to protest the potential cancellation of the National Labor Relations Board's (NLRB) Phoenix office. In June, the junior senator urged the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to keep the Energy Star program active.

Finally, in July, Gallego demanded the restoration of funds for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

More recently, Gallego wrote to Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, urging safeguards against prescription drug price hikes brought about by a 2026 preliminary rate increase of 6%.
