In his first term, Congressman Abe Hamadeh is leading bipartisan legislation to address significant staffing shortages at Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities nationwide.
Abe Hamadeh has partnered with Democratic Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski of Illinois to introduce the Health Professionals Scholarship Program Improvement Act of 2025 (HR 3767), a bill designed to streamline the process of getting qualified healthcare providers into VA facilities where they're needed most.

The legislation tackles a significant problem facing the VA healthcare system, such as lengthy delays in hiring medical professionals who have completed their education through the Health Professionals Scholarship Program (HPSP).
Current procedures can result in significant delays between the completion of training and the start of employment at VA facilities, restricting veterans ' proper access to care.
"This bipartisan bill addresses critical gaps in VA healthcare delivery by getting healthcare professionals to VA facilities where they need them," said Olivia.
The proposed solution would direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to ensure that HPSP participants, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers, receive full-time employment contracts with the Veterans Health Administration within 90 days of completing their coursework.
Hamadeh's dedication to veterans' issues stems from his military service. He has firsthand experience of the difficulties faced by people who have served their country as a former intelligence officer and Army Captain.
"Congressman Hamadeh is committed to ensuring that our veterans receive the care they earned," Hamadeh's office stated, emphasizing his investment in the legislation.
The bill has already gained significant momentum in Congress. The House Committee on Veterans Affairs unanimously passed the HPSP Improvement Act of 2025 in support of addressing the healthcare challenges that veterans face.
The bill may pass the legislative process quickly, which could help understaffed VA institutions around the country, according to the committee's unanimous vote.
