School Supplies Drive Supports Arizona Families

The state of Arizona is seeing an increase in community support as August approaches closer and families start getting ready for the new school year. As the price of school supplies keeps rising, neighborhood organizations are taking action to make sure no student arrives at class without anything.

A number of significant events are planned to assist families in getting ready for the upcoming school year. On July 12, Phoenix will celebrate Tools 4 School's 13th year at Sun Valley Academy, marking the beginning of the busy season. Through collaborations with APS, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the HeroZona Foundation, the early morning event, which takes place from 7-9 a.m., is anticipated to provide thousands of backpacks to K–8 kids.

Families in West Phoenix can mark July 19 on their calendars for the return of Adelante Healthcare's Super Bash on Metro Parkway West. The first 450 K–12 kids will receive items from the festive occasion, together with snacks and neighborhood services to assist families in preparing for the upcoming academic year.

On July 26, TruWest Credit Union and Community Bridges, Inc. will hold a comprehensive back-to-school event at Mesa's Interstake Center, marking the East Valley's big day. In addition to the usual backpacks and supplies, families getting ready for the new year can take advantage of wellness services like dental cleanings, haircuts, and sports physicals, which will help students feel prepared and confident when they return to school.

A number of organizations are making last-minute efforts to gather supplies as the school year draws near. The Salvation Army's Backpack SOS campaign is still open through July 27 and can be donated at any Fry's Food Store store.

To make sure these courageous youngsters have what they need as they balance treatment and going back to school, Chandler's Children's Cancer Network is working against a June 20 deadline to gather supplies for young cancer patients and their siblings.

The Equality Health Foundation has already prepared 2,000 bags for distribution at well-child visits this summer because it understands that healthy children are prepared students. The program helps families check both boxes as they get ready for the school year by tying back-to-school preparation with necessary health treatments.

Students with particular difficulties are receiving extra attention as the school year draws near. In addition to providing resources, the Foster Alliance's Back-to-School Program offers foster youngsters emotional support as they adjust to returning to school. In order to ensure that children from low-income households begin the school year feeling prepared and proud, Legacy Connection continues its yearly commitment to serve over 15,000 children.

The group effort reflects the commitment of Arizona communities to ensure that every child, regardless of their family's financial circumstances, has a successful back-to-school season. But the increasing dependence on nonprofits to supply basic school supplies has sparked discussions about Arizona's priorities for education funding, especially because the state has one of the lowest spending per student rates in the country and is growing its expensive school voucher program.
