Governor Hobbs Secures Key Endorsement from EMILY's List for Reelection Campaign

Today, EMILY's List, a well-known national group that works to elect pro-choice Democratic women to government, endorsed Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, giving her reelection campaign a major boost.

This endorsement emphasizes Katie Hobbs' dedication to reproductive rights and her history of standing up for Arizona families. "Battle-tested leader" is how EMILY's List described the governor in their social media announcement.

"Today, we're proud to endorse Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs for reelection! Gov. Hobbs has proven time and time again that she will always do what's right for Arizonans, and it's critical that we reelect this battle-tested leader with a record of fighting for working families," the organization stated.

Governor Hobbs expressed her appreciation for the endorsement, emphasizing the shared commitment to protecting women's rights. "I'm proud to have the endorsement of EMILY's List, an organization on the frontlines of the fight for reproductive freedom and women's rights," Hobbs said. "Together, we'll continue to push back against extremists who want to roll back all the progress we've made for Arizonans."

Record on Reproductive Rights

The support comes as Hobbs keeps gaining progress for her reproductive rights campaign. She signed legislation in May 2024 that repealed Arizona's nearly complete abortion ban from 1864, which the state Supreme Court had restored. In her defense of reproductive rights, the governor has often maintained that "politicians do not belong in the doctor's office."

Additionally, Hobbs has supported Proposition 139, a ballot initiative that established abortion rights in the Arizona constitution and was approved by voters in November 2024. A judge blocked the state's 15-week abortion restriction after it was passed, which increased access to reproductive care.

The governor has worked to expand access to contraception in addition to abortion rights, announcing the Arizona Right to Contraception Act and guaranteeing the full implementation of laws that permit Arizonans to obtain birth control without a prescription.

Broader Coalition of Support

Hobbs' reelection campaign has a growing coalition of support, including EMILY's List. The governor has also received the endorsement of the Arizona AFL-CIO, a federation of labor unions, which Hobbs cites as evidence of her working-class upbringing and dedication to economic opportunity and workers' rights.

Support has also come from the business community. Richard Ra, president of LG Energy Solution Arizona, stated that the company supports Hobbs' efforts to secure supply chains for advanced battery manufacturing and to create high-quality jobs.

About EMILY's List

EMILY’s List was established on the principle of electing Democratic women who support abortion to all governmental positions. In order to give candidates the advantage in competitive races, the organization offers resources, training, and expertise.

In order to influence and stimulate important groups, especially women voters, who have been an important factor in recent elections, EMILY's List conducts intensive voter outreach initiatives through Women Vote, its independent investment organization.

The EMILY's List endorsement adds to Hobbs' coalition of supporters as she seeks a second term. Arizona remains a closely contested state in recent elections, and the governor's race will likely draw significant attention and resources from both parties.
